Raku fired ceramic Hare

Raku fired ceramic Hare

£80.00Price

This happy hare is full of character! Made using the ancient Raku firing technique to create unique rustic crackles in the glaze. The technique involves a rapid firing and cooling where the piece is added at 1000 degrees to hardwood sawdust. The fire, smoke and reduction in oxygen creates the crackles in the glaze which are enhanced by the carbon in the smoke produced. It’s a hard job scrubbing this off the coating of carbon with wire wool, but efforts are rewarded by the beautiful results of raku. Individually hand made in my Dorset garden workshop. Height 19.5 cm
